Typography Photograph
HI!
For this week, I got a chance to look into the work of Hills and Bernd Becher and create a photograph using the same concepts. Within Hills and Bernd Becher's work was 16 images that contain a single object within each other. However, though there was a single object in each photo, the objects were all of the same subject. For instance, one of their photographs was of 16 different feather all placed in a grid format and compressed into one image. Therefore, based on their idea of different object, same category, I photographed shoes.
When deciding on what to photograph, I had to think what is something that I have 16 of. Though I don't actually own 16 pairs of shoes, I knew my roommate had an extensive shoe collection and decided to raid her closet. In the end, I think the image turned out pretty cool for this reason, it ended up looking like a mini catalog of the shoes she's actually owns.
As for the image itself, I photographed and edited 16 images, resizing them all to 3000 by 3000 pixels. Further, changing the contrast, dropping it down by 20, this way all the photos were of the same size and under similar restrictions. After editing and resizing the photo, I placed them in a 4x4 grid, which was inspired by the Hills and Bernd Becher's work. At first, I was going to add the photos randomly, but noticed a pattern and decided to stick with it. Though, in my opinion I think it makes the image more pleasing to look at. In the end, the final image was 1800 by 1800 pixels.
