Secor Metro
Secor Metro Park 6 November 2020
STUCK!
I love seeing and traveling to new places, but I never even thought about exploring different parks and places right in the town that I live in. Typically I would stick to just to the one park I know and love but after having agreed to take care of my dads dogs, it was decided to start to branch out to new places. Therefore, after just a week the dogs and I had explored 4 different parks. Secor metro park being one of the park to conquered.
Once arriving to the park I had no idea which direction to take, so I just started to drive around. From one of the entrances at the park, you can find a building used for events and open for rentals. And the other you'll finding the parking lots right away. After finally finding the parking lots, they appeared to not too far from the nearest trail. Though there aren't many trails in the park, each trail can get you to the opposite side of the park without feeling as if you had been walking for miles or hours.
The dogs and I decided that we would take a long walk and ended up exploring 70% of the park! During this walk, we found a trail that was not paved and choose to venture down it.
Now, being the adventurous soul that I am, I wanted to veer off the rough path and explore the others parts of the parks ground, even though there is a common rule when hiking to "Stay on the paths." Of course, I did not, and became distracted by the fallen trees to climb all over. As a ran off the trail and over to the trees I got stuck! I had fallen a foot and half into a huge pit of mud without realizing it. In shock, I swiftly pulled myself out of the mud and back over to the designated pathway. Since it was fall and the ground was covered in leaves, I didn't even see the mud pit that surrounded the fallen trees. But quickly made me learn stay on the paths and look where in walking.
- Variety of trails: Depending on the type of terrain you enjoy to hike, you have the choice between, paved, rough, gravel, wooden or praise field trails
- Bathrooms: Most of the bathrooms around the park just got redone so they are very nice! However, there is not too many around, mainly just by the parking lots.
- Playground: A newly renovated park is perfect for children and young adults, if you did not want to take a walk
- Dedicated cross-county skiing trail! Personally, I do not cross-country ski but its neat that park incorporated this for people that do enjoy the sport.
- Signs: Trails are not labeled very well and directions to places around the park can be hard to find
